PHOTO DIARY: NEW YORK DAY 3 + 4

…you may notice that food is a central theme to this trip – we tended to plan our day with “ok so we need to go to [insert food place name here] and [insert other food place name here]” hahaha…

third day ‘breakfast’ started off with a trip to Katz Deli, a well known delicatessen in east village. it wasn’t that far really, given we lived across the road. ROFL=P [great accommodation location!]

decided to venture up to the rooftop via our balcony staircase…

up i go..

IMG_6691

trying to be arty. haha.

IMG_6693

kind of scary going up and down because the stairs were so rusted and i was so high up=/

IMG_6694

view of katz from across the road at our place – america seems to have construction going on alllllll the time…

IMG_6695

inside was a lot bigger than it looked compared to the outside.

IMG_6697

front of shop. the two dudes to the right of the picture gave everyone coming in a ticket, which you used to pay for your meal before you left.

IMG_6698

half pastrami, half corned beef sandwich with pickles on the side. SUPER fresh!

lining up…

afterwards made a trip downtown for mr poops to see his friend; after which we hit Top of The Rock, the lookout point from the Rockafeller Center. i heard from my friend it was a better vantage point than going to say, the Empire State building [of which then you wouldnt be able to take photos of it…haha]…

pinching the empire.

was kind of funny, lichan [and uj, as we found out later] was SO convinced that the Chrysler building was the Empire State building – he was like WTH!? when i told him otherwise…ahahaha!

IMG_6745

not that interesting. but i like cinnamon pretzel bits:D minus the excessive sugar which stuck everywhere…

IMG_6752

5th avenue:)

made a small pit stop at Num Pang, a NY-style cambodian sub place – i didnt take a photo of the food but i did have a bite of mr poops catfish sub…it was super good!

also loved the interior graffiti design:D

next stop, west village via Grand Central Station – pretty sure iv been here before as a kid, but ahh it is soo amazing to see again!

gigantic apple store right in the middle of the station 0_O

oops forgot we made a short detour also to Prince St off Broadway to check out the Prada flagship store [and buy my wallet, as you see HERE] – amazing! the outside is SO lowkey but the shopfit was amazing inside…pretty much, mens stuff on one side of the store, ladies on the other, and the central bit of the floor dips/curves down into the lower floor, kind of like an amphitheatre? male mannequins with flashy cameras on one side; ‘taking photos’ of the lady mannequins on the other side in evening dresses, surrounded by shoes and bags…so cool!

unfortunately i wasnt allowed to take any photos, even the 2nd time coming back when we tried to get poops his wallet….but googled and found an image HERE😉

IMG_6772

so lowkey that we couldnt even find it initially…

finally,  Spotted Pig time:) heard this place usually packs up fast + has super long wait times! but apparently coming at 5pm as we did was fine, because we got into the earliest dinner spot!:D

IMG_6776

cheesin on the way to spotted pig.

IMG_6777

IMG_6778

would not have thought this would be such a popular place, given the unpretentious set up….but anyway! haha.

IMG_6788

IMG_6793

creme brulee…

IMG_6794

choc.

admired the Hudson River sunset [soooo pretty!!] before going for after dinner drinks nearby at the Rusty Knot – good times, we ended up playing pool rounds 2 vs 2, the losers having to take pickleback shots – whats that? i didnt know until that night haha – 1 shot of whisky followed by a shot of pickle juice…0_O not to mention the shotglasses are 1.5x the normal size!

luckily for me [+ uj] we won most pool rounds so we only had to take one….so poor gary + poops=P i was talking to some locals there though; and they were all “what? i LOVE pickle juice! the winners should be doing the shots!” …bahaha.

sunset soooo nice!!

day 4! Woodbury Commons – we rented a car from Hertz near the outskirts of the city, and drove out to the outlets, which i think was about 1-1.5hrs out from NY. apparently the car request was only a small sedan, but they upgraded us to a monster van for free. baha!

staring at the monster van. hahaha.

cool bridge.

i think overall, none of us were that impressed with the outlets – the discounts werent THAAT great. i think the guys found that the stock was pretty meh, whereas for me i think it was more the price, and that a lot of the outlets were luxury brands, so that even with a slight discount, it was still wayy too expensive. so i dont know if id bother going back here.

awesome weather though.
