PHOTO DIARY: NEW YORK DAY 5 + 6

a much anticipated food stop for me + lichan was Shopsins on Essex St – a joint owned by soup nazi-esque Kenny Shopsins, whom we read up about online – swearing at people, kicking them out for not going by his rules. safe to say we were pretty nervous going to eat… excited to try the food though; which seemed to be a fusion of…anything really 0__O

werent allowed to take photos of the store itself [even though i may have ninja-ed some], so im gonna respect that and not post..

the menu. look closely and you’ll see some really interesting stuff!

CIMG5901

poops grapefruit julius. it was kind of milk and kind of citrus-y at the same time. strange.

CIMG5902

mine – Malay Slutty Cakes – cashew + raisin pancakes, with avocado and kaya [coconut] jam wedges in between. with maple syrup. it was sweet, sweet, awesome, and oh so sweet >__<

CIMG5903

poops – Capt’n Jack – macaroni + cheese pancakes [yes! so good], panko fried chicken and scrambled eggs in between. it was GOOD.

CIMG5904

i like how they have their own plates haha. given they are situated in a market..

after breakfast it was onto Central Park – we got bored pretty quickly 1/5th into walking into trees, trees, and more green trees…so after about half an hr of walking around it was onto the next one! hahaha…

CIMG5905

horsies outside.

an acrobatics/bboy? crew outside central park, playing parkour tricks with the audience [we actually saw one in Times Square later that evening, which was abt 10x as entertaining…hahaha]

shopped for a bit around the area, then made a stop to F.A.O Schwartz!

more window shopping + coffee before heading home briefly..

CIMG5956

aside from Four Barrels in SF [see HERE], Blue Bottle coffee is probably the only other really good coffee that i had in the states haha..

CIMG5958

CIMG5959

pro. i really liked this place, they actually knew their stuff!

quick change back home, then we went out to meet uj before BROADWAY TIME! hit up a Bangkok restaurant; cant remember the name but it was so nice inside! pretty sure the guys were preoccupied with the waitresses in short short minidresses and heels more than anything though=P

CIMG5960

another waitress [not pictured] was wearing a backless, shorter black dress to that waitress haha…

CIMG5961

wasnt bad.

met up with gary and we sat down to see SPIDERMAN! on Broadway…which was surprisingly, not too bad and pretty entertaining. they ended up having like 8 spidermans doing different aerial tricks on wires and on stage. was pretty cool! albeit not canon with the Marvel comics at all HAHA.

CIMG5964

opening screen.

R Lounge was the next stop after Broadway; which was a bar in Renaissance Hotel in times square…super nice view of the crowds and lights below!

cocktail and glowing phone, haha.

..so how did the rest of the night go? made an impromptu decision to karaoke [karaoke duet on 31st st:D]  in koreatown at a japanese joint [dont ask], lost track of time and realised it was 5am…ROFL. good times though…

day 6! dragged myself up after 3 measly hours of sleep to see my friend carol – who coincidently, i ate lunch with at a korean joint RIGHT NEXT DOOR to the karaoke joint i was at the night before….

IMG_6807

tired carol.

was pretty much incredibly braindead by mid afternoon due to my lack of sleep; ended up wandering aimlessly then found lichan on 6th avenue at this huge market thing! streets and streets of food stalls…

so…we didnt do much at night. too damn tired. but we did venture out for xi’an food at this tiny shop – Xi’An Famous Foods – which had a billion good reviews posted on its walls, and the lines were out the door!

CIMG5973
